Wrong Verses Right: Matthew 5:46 KJV

For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? ~ Matthew 5:46 KJV

Wrong Interpretation

Some interpret this scripture to mean that if you are loved or supported by a Christian you do not know, you don’t have to show them love back because you won’t get a reward for it anyway.

Right Interpretation

The context is about loving your enemies instead of avenging.  However, this does not mean that we should not love each other in the church or greet other Christians in the doctrine.  These things are expected, but it is harder to love an enemy.

And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others ? do not even the publicans so? ~Matthew 5:47 KJV

Jesus definitely wants us to love eachother, but our reward comes through loving our enemies.
