Estimated Reading Time: 1 minuteMeekness means “strength under pressure.”
Are you believing this lie?
I am not sure who started this one. Meekness means “having a quiet or gentle nature; not wanting to fight or argue; submissive.” However, if we search the greek interpretation of the word in the Brown-Driver-Briggs definition of “meek” in the Bible, we discover that it means “gentle; lowly; needy in circumstance; poor; humble.”
Well, the KJV biblical listing of the fruit of the spirit has both gentleness and meekness, so meekness probably does not mean gentleness again.
[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ~Galatians 5:22-23 KJV
Moreover, if we look at the context that Jesus uses it— “and the meek shall inherit the earth”— He is probably referencing “needy in circumstance” because as authentic Christians, we deny ourselves. Jesus was the ultimate example of meekness.
Therefore, Christians who have lived in need rather than satisfying their own desires, will eventually inherit the earth.
Can you see how “strength under pressure” completely hides the real meaning?
