Moment of Truth: Casting Down Lies #32

“Fearing God is respecting God. I have nothing to fear.”

Have you ever noticed that certain Christians never talk about fearing God? They only share scriptures that say, “Fear not” or “Whom shall I fear?”

Unfortunately, the point of fearing God is to depart from evil and know that God has your life in His hands. He will punish severely for sin.

Jesus spoke this scripture right before He shared a parable:

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. ~Luke 12:32 KJV

However, Peter asked to whom the Lord was speaking:

Then Peter said unto Him, “Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? “~Luke 12:41 KJV

Jesus then told him it was the faithful and wise servant who was watching for the Lord’s return. If the servant failed to be faithful, God would violently cut him to pieces.

The Lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for Him , and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. ~Luke 12:46 KJV

Hence, fear God. “Fear not little flock” is in the context of wanting the best for His obedient, faithful children. It is the diligent children who have nothing to fear in the context of remaining obedient, but should fear to remind themselves not to sin. The lazy, unfaithful, sinning ones must fear.

David said this scripture:

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ~Psalm 27:1 KJV

This verse is in the context of not fearing man and not fearing your enemies, but it is not about not fearing God.

Jesus brings reality back into focus by saying it twice:

But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear Him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear Him. ~Luke 12:5 KJV

Respect and fear are on two, very different levels. Believe Jesus when He says, “Fear God.”

[6] Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; [7] And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, [8] In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: [9] Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power; [10] When He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. ~2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 KJV

Prayers are heard because of fearing God.

[6] As He saith also in another place, “Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.” [7] Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; ~Hebrews 5:6-7 KJV

Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into His rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. ~Hebrews 4:1 KJV

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. ~Hebrews 10:31 KJV
[28] Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: [29] For our God is a consuming fire. ~Hebrews 12:28-29 KJV
