Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes“If you think you’re perfect, you don’t lean on Christ.”
Are you believing this lie?
Do these people realize that they’ve denied Christ and the whole point of His death and resurrection? They’ve made Christianity seem powerless and actively teach that “we will never be perfect” as they loudly proclaim their false humility with images like the ones above. The words on those images are known as “doctrines of men.”
Perfect Christians are perfect because they’ve trusted in Jesus, are led to perfection by the Holy Spirit of God, have been obedient to His word, and are running the race as the apostle Paul references in the entire passage that this scripture was found:
Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. ~Philippians 3:15 KJV
To think that being perfect means you don’t have Christ or that being imperfect is okay with God, after you’ve been born again, is to misunderstand the Bible entirely. To share that claim with others is to blaspheme; that God will take pleasure in us in spite of our (sinful) blemishes.
Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless. ~2 Peter 3:14 KJV
Mark the perfect man , and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. ~Psalm 37:37 KJV
Of course, people should not run around in arrogance about perfection either, but who really does that? Paul makes it clear that Christians come to perfection and to embrace the opposite is misleading.
Jesus shows us who is perfect.
“The disciple is not above his Master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his Master.” ~Luke 6:40 KJV
The main reason that we do not see perfect Christians is because of all the false doctrines they are believing. However, this does not mean that we will never be perfect. The Apostle Paul claimed that he had not yet achieved perfection, but later in the scriptures, he did achieve it because he was doing what Jesus did.
One reason why our authenticity is so valuable is because we do not remain flawed– because our help is from the Lord. The Lord is perfect. The only other religion on the planet that understands this is Judaism. Saying we will “never be perfect” rips the doctrine apart.
We’re Christians. The perfect law and the perfect Spirit lives in us. Thus, we can be perfected.
Any born-again person can achieve perfection in Christ Jesus if they are willing through the work and discipline of Christ’s doctrine that Paul brought to the churches and if they are willing to diligently study the Word and apply it.
