“Stand fast therefore in the liberty…”

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. ~Galatians 5:1 KJV

Wrong Interpretation:

This scripture about liberty in Christ is often used to justify that Christians should no longer adhere to religious routines in Christianity.

Right Interpretation:

The apostle Paul was talking about circumcision. The Galatians were falling back into Jewish circumcision practices to be clean rather than accepting Christ’s circumcision of the heart.

Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. ~Galatians 5:2 KJV

Accepting Christ’s circumcision of the heart means that we adhere to the doctrine that Paul brought to learn how to become Christ-like.  Within it are many religious routines (e.g. praying without ceasing, capturing every thought unto the obedience of Christ, increasing in the knowledge of God, being orderly, being steadfast, etc.).
