When Judas and the accusers came to arrest Jesus, one of the first things that occurred is that Jesus protected His followers.
[8] Jesus answered, “I have told you that I am He : if therefore ye seek Me, let these go their way”: [9] That the saying might be fulfilled, which He spake, “Of them which thou gavest Me have I lost none.” ~John 18:8-9 KJV
If Jesus had not made the choice to speak those words, perhaps the disciples would have been executed or maybe some of His followers would have left the faith in discouragement of facing a crucifixion.
But He spoke those words of protection.
His Word was fulfilled and therefore, the saying is no longer a “might be fulfilled,” but a “was fulfilled.”
Jesus is our protector. He always desires the best for us. We simply need to be a true follower at His side.
