Parable: The Lonely Servant and the Happy Servant

Once upon a time there were two servants. One was lonely. The lonely servant met another servant who listened to her, therefore, she had hope in her new friendship with the happy servant. Each time the lonely servant met the happy servant, she found comfort as she was able to talk with her about her troubles and also discover new things about her new friend. For seven years, the lonely servant and the happy servant visited each other on several occasions. Their families also attended church together, ate together, and prayed together. One day the lonely servant said to her, “Happy servant, you are my best friend.”

But the happy servant did not respond.

Then the lonely servant invited the happy servant to three events, but the happy servant did not come.

The lonely servant said, “Why have you declined my gatherings? I thought we were great friends.”

But the happy servant replied, “Well, I don’t really know you.”

The lonely servant said in shock and dismay, “What are you talking about?  We’ve known each other for years.”

The happy servant replied, “Well, I guess you are right.  I am sorry.”♥

How do you think the lonely servant felt?

The lonely servant just wasn’t happy enough. She talked about her problems; you’re not supposed to do that. You’re supposed to say happy things, fun things, and helpful things– you are NOT supposed to share your hurts and ASK for help with anyone except God. So, the lonely servant was rejected.
